Delhi Daze

Living on the Backside
"I'm still at the stage where I will stop to admire a plant or tree. It's all new. It's green, hot and humid; a perfect environment for growing things. Frangipani trees are common, ginormous snails (wonder if they're edible), and bougainvillea, one of my favourite shrubs (tree?) is plentiful." First impressions from a newcomer to Delhi.
The Birds and the Bees
"What I had wanted to write about this time was - believe it or not - birds and bees. I just got a bit worried that you might think I was going to give you a 'facts of life' type of thing."
Licensed to Kill
"I decided to get an Indian driving licence - well, you never know when you might need one. Think of it as something I collect, rather than use, as I have various licences but generally prefer to be driven. I'm too nervous when sober and, you get the picture." Stravaig goes to pick up a driving licence.
Monkey Business
Some of the more outlandish rumours that have circulated in Delhi - on British Expat magazine
Rip Off
"Yeah, you read about the warnings in the books, but you think as a savvy traveller, indeed as someone who lives there, that you won't get conned. Even before I entered Palika Bazaar I almost fell victim to one of the scams." Stravaig looks at some of Delhi's most prevalent ripoffs.
British Kite Mark
"Forget Afghanistan, forget the tensions between Pakistan and India. Forget the possibility of terrorist attacks on foreigners. And forget that they're trying to change the right-of-way rule on roundabouts (scary!). The currently most dangerous thing about living in Delhi is the birds." Stravaig involuntarily shares a meal with a feathered friend...
