"Unfortunately some unscrupulous bloggers have taken the trackback facility and subverted it, so that they can get a free link to their site without actually writing a proper article. Needless to say, the people who use this tactic generally aren't doing it to provide a useful service to the Web user – they're doing it to try to make money..." Dave bemoans the subversion of yet another useful Web technology – and warns about the need to keep software up-to-date and secure.
