Flamin' galahs...
"The meal didn’t look that great, to be honest. The 'Aussie chips' were bog-standard frozen fries, the grilled onions looked anaemic and rather as if they’d simply been sweated off, and the peppercorn sauce looked like a thin gravy, with no evidence of any peppercorns anywhere. Still, I cut myself a small portion of the steak – noting as I did so that it wasn’t medium rare, but blue (not a problem; I like my meat bloody) – and took a mouthful." Kay and Dave visit the Outback Steakhouse in Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Bintang – and discover that it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Height of luxury
"As we finally emerged, our jaws dropped as we discovered an immense living space. The whole suite, it turned out, was 118 square metres; nearly twice as big as the one we'd booked, and about a third bigger than the entire floorspace of the two-and-a-half-bedroom house we used to have in suburban London." Kay and Dave experience the high life in the lebua at State Tower suite hotel in Bangkok's Silom Road.

End child sex tourism now!
Several countries, including the UK, have now passed laws making it possible to convict people for child sex offences they've committed abroad. However, enforcement is very mixed. Part of this is because the police in the country where the offences are committed don't have the resources to investigate child sex crime. On occasions, the police themselves may be paid to look the other way. But sometimes, sorry to say, it's a matter of the government of the offender's country of origin not being willing to commit resources to extraditing and prosecuting its own criminals. Read more...

The saucerer's apprentice!
"White sauce is very easy to make but there are still people who are unsure of how to make it – otherwise supermarkets wouldn't sell so much of the packet mix stuff!" Kay explains how to make a simple white sauce, which can also be the basis of many flavoured sauces.
