hi....
If anyone could comment on my case and questions below, I'd much appreciate it.
I am Turkish (ethnically), with a classic Turkish name "Mustafa", who was born, raised and educated in Melbourne, Australia and am now aged 32. For the past 7 months, I've moved to the UK working for a UK company, whilst my wife has moved back to Ankara (where she is originally from) as an exchange student from Australia, to complete her final year of university.
I am NOT a Turkish citizen, with ONLY Australian citizenship. My wife has both dual (Turkish/Australian) citizenship and my father is a Turkish citizen as well.
Our dream has for many years, been to live and work in Turkey. My ideal dream would be to continue my current job, but simply live in Turkey.
Since my current job as sales/technical manager for scientific instruments covers a territory from Europe, middle east and out to India, I travel 2-4 times a months to these areas, spending about 50% of my time out of home. When in my home country, I work "from home" and rely heavily on the internet, mobile and easy access to an international airport to conduct business.....so my questions are as follows.
1. Can I continue to work for a UK company and get paid as I do now in GBP, but live in Turkey? (I have not asked my manager yet, as being a non-standard request, I wanted to gather all the facts first)
2. What happens to where/how I pay taxes, pension schemes etc if I get paid from the UK, but live in Turkey?
3. I have a work permit for the UK....does that need to change?
4. Basically, I must be sure that from a legal point of view it is possible and that my company will not be any worse of financially, ie. I need to prove that by me living in Turkey, I do not become an extra burden on them.
5. How best to handle the residency/citizenship issues...? being male, I really dont fancy becoming a citizen (as i have the right to from my wife and father), only to be dragged into military service, or be asked to pay huge sums of money to avoid it or to have it reduced in period.
I look forward to hearing others thoughts and even if anyone else has done something like this before.
regards,
Mustafa
