Things to do for families: Of course, you must take up sailing!
Seriously, the sailing is spectacular, the diving is supposed to be good, and I expect there must be some good snorkelling grounds, too. There are places to swim. Malta has cinemas, theatres, even an ice rink. You can go hiking. You can take trips to Italy. You can look at all the sites - there are archaeological digging sites, museums etc. Kids love the fortifications, I think. It's a stunning place, you'll love it. - Again, other people will be able to add more. Get a couple of guide books from the library and look through them, they list a lot of things.
Hope this helps a little.
Enjoy your visit in September, and keep us posted!
Best wishes
