food
recommended
Esarn Kheaw, 316 Uxbridge Road, Shepherd's Bush. (Tel: 020 8743
8930) An excellent little place for north eastern Thai food. Because
it's small and very popular, booking is recommended, especially at weekends.
Expect to pay about £20 per head for dinner with drinks extra; Thai
beer costs about £2.50 a bottle.
Tarboush, 11 Wardour Street, Soho. (Tel: 020 7287 1220) Lebanese
cuisine at its best. A good deal is their £15 per head, three course
set meal which comes with a huge variety of starters (3 per person,
so if there's four of you, you get 12 starters!). The food is wonderful
but the downside of this restaurant is that a bottle of wine costs from
£15, so although the food is a bargain, chances are you'll still get
a large bill.
pubs
We'll be bringing you a few pubs here soon. In the meantime, if you
have any particular favourites - or absolute no-nos - please write in
and tell us!
shopping
Wing Yip, the wholesale and retail Oriental supermarket has two branches
in London - one on Purley Way, Croydon, the other near Wembley. They
supply Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Malaysian and Thai food, drink,
cooking equipment at very competitive prices compared to other supermarkets.
Their range of exotic ingredients is second to none. Where else can
you buy Bai Horapa, fresh lime leaves, and all the other ingredients
so necessary for authentic Thai cuisine?
