Now working in Libya

Postby MarcusBartrip » Tue 06 Jan 2009 17:43

Hi all! Brand new to this forum and joined purely for this reason, but will hopefully get to know you all via the forums...

Just to let you know, I have started to work in Libya, just outside Tripoli and been here for about 2 months now. I love the country and the life style, although it takes a lot of getting used to!

I do have a few questions, if any member's know the answer... I am looking to move my girfriend and her little boy out here in a couple of months time. I have heard there are some schools yelling out for English Teachers without qualifications, so am going through the Embassy to check these out for her. But the main question is, in this quite strict society, will there be any problems with myself and my girlfriend co-habiting whilst not being married?

Also, does anyone know of any good schools for a 9 year old at all?

Really hope to hear from you all soon, and hopefully the other 2 people that last posted a year and a half ago did come over and found it fantastic, as I am right now :D

Regards, Marcus

Hi Marcus

Welcome to the forum. I don't think we have many (any?) members in Libya right now. It's a chicken and egg thing. No one will post if we don't have the members and we don't get the members if no one posts. :)

Glad to hear you're loving the place. Good luck.

Hope you do have a look around here, and join us on Chinwags on our main forum just to meet people and make new friends. Have to say it's lovely to read such a positive posting about how much you're enjoying your new country.

Hi Alan!

Sorry for the slight delay in responding. The internet really is hit and miss out here a lot of the time :)

That surprises me about having to find own accommodation out here as most jobs come with the abode attached to the Terms and Condiions.

Rough prices are around 1000 LD per month (roughly £500) but you will need an agent to get you the apartment as no outsider (pardon the phrase but thats what we are in their eyes..) is allowed to purchase or rent by themselves.

My company has engaged a company called LibCo to sort out our apartments and transport. Do you want me to get you more information on them at all?

Libya-- new arrival

Postby boros_fan » Thu 30 Apr 2009 02:04

Hey gang

I'm also on my way out to Libya--- probably arrive there mid-May, going to be based in Tripoli-- any decent Tennis courts out there-- and what about the kebabs?!!!

btw, is there any scope to bring a bicycle out to Libya? I was thinking of doing a bit of cycling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
