NHS or Private Health

Is Oz similar to the UK with regard to the healthcare. I dont have any health problems but need to find out as much as possible before arriving. Everyone tells me that preparation is the key to settling quicker. Thanx
Looking for work in Perth and any helpful info. I am a jig and tool design draughtsman but also a an experienced cook and transport manager
