Dear Members,
Please excuse the lengthy posting!
I am trying to find expats, preferably from the westcountry, who might be interested to take part in our programmes...
I have pasted an outline below of the previous two series and also a general piece on what we are hoping to achieve this time round...
Slow Blokes Series (Slow Blokes in France - transmission in September 2007)
The first series took the three Grumps (as we affectionately call them!) around the westcountry on a boat, stopping to meet locals along the way and calling in on, er, numerous pubs!
The second series "Slow Blokes in France" saw our three Grumps in their beloved 1970s bus, tour Brittany and Normandy, calling in on expats, tasting French wine, visiting local markets and attending festivals and events (such as combine harvester racing!) in the regions. The expats we met included a man who set up a pig farm in France and sold English style sausages, a couple that set up a fishing holiday business, a man that is brewing English beer and selling it to the French, as well as French contributors such as the man who founded Coreff beer (inspired by his first English pint when he visited England), a French wine producer and an Onion Johnny...
The third series will hopefully follow in the same way, but exploring Spanish culture and traditions as well as meeting the expats that have moved out there, in addition to sampling Spanish food and drink.
With the number of property programmes on the television, plus new series like Marbella belles (!), I do understand that there is a lot of suspicion from expats out there - however, I hope that you can see from the gist of previous series that it is a "fun" series and we are hoping to find expats who may be able to give us some of their time and tell us about their life in Spain.
I also need to find knowledgeable people who know of any events, festivals or interesting local characters that we may be able to visit and film - particularly stories where Chris, Craig and Ron can take part... It would be great to find someone who is producing their own wine, or has taken up farming, makes olive oil, plays pelota with the locals, or has started up an unusual business.... or just people that would be happy to share a drink with our grumps!
At the moment (and this will be fairly flexible according to which stories we find) this is our route:
Santander & San Sebastian
Pamplona
Logrono - visit to rioja wine region - we hope to find some expats who are growing/producing their own wine, failing that a Spanish wine grower who would be happy to meet and chat to our presenters, involve them in any harvest activities and talk about Spanish wines (with tasting).
Follow Pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela
Follow coast road into Portugal
Exit Portugal to arrive at:
Sevilla - find flamenco teacher, real flamenco dancers, follow bullfighting leads (visit to bull breeding farm),
Cordoba - start story about Moors and Christian captives
Granada - Moorish influence
Costa del Sol - English expats
Ronda - bullfighting links
Jerez - home of sherry, find sherry producer who would be happy to show us how it's done and let us sample his produce
to Gibraltar
to Morocco
If you have the time and can think of anyone that may be able to help, including suggesting story lines, would you be kind enough to give them my email address? suzie.bostel@denhams.tv
I'd be most grateful...
Many thanks,
Best wishes
