Glossary Needed?

I've just been having a look around in here and there's a lot of jargon flying around. Quite natural in the circumstances but maybe a bit daunting for the newbies (and me! ).

It would be great if some of you could take the time to post here in this thread with the main ones, such as PNP (whatever that is), so we can maybe cobble together a glossary of terms and abbreviations.

Would that be helpful? Is anyone willing to lend a hand? Better still, anyone want to co-ordinate it? Jessica? Morwenna?

I'd be happy to help but not sure how many i really know!

PNP - Provincial Nomination Program. Some provinces (not ontario) have this program to bring skilled workers into the province, Its faster than the normal process but you have to settle in the province for a certain amount of time

AOR - Acknowledgement of Receipt (i think!) The first letter you get after you submit your residency application. They usually give you a timeline of when to expect to hear from them etc

PR - Permanent Residency. When you have the right to settle in Canada permanently and work

HRSDC - used to be Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, now Human Resources and Social Development Canada. They do all the approvals for job offers that validate them and make them worth points for immigration

AOE - Arranged Offer of (permanent) Employment. If approved by HRSDC then can count towards points and possibly speed up the process.

LMO - Labour Market Opinion. Confirmation by HRSDC that no Canadians can fill a specific job and that a foreigner can fill the post without jeopardising the Canadian labour market.

How about grouping the glossary into subject headings? For example, immigration terms, abbreviations for provinces (Michael44 has already posted that somewhere), and anything else that crops up here? Might be nice to see them in alphabetical order too within the groups.

You'll need moderator's privileges to do the kind of editing (cutting, pasting, editing your earlier postings) required for this task, so we think the best way forward is to create a new board and let you have a go at it. How does this sound? Whatever, don't worry about it, there's plenty of help on hand if you have any problems.)
